Magician is an Actor

There is a common saying in the magic world that "A magician is an actor playing the part of a magician." There are many things that I like about this statement. First of all it reminds people that magic is essentially theater at heart; many people do not realize this. It also sets the magician in the correct frame of mind. Anybody familiar with method acting will immediately realize the tremendous effect this has on the veracity of the performance. This just reinforces the theatre of magic and when played well, can really work for a strong, memorable magical moment.
